I finally made it to the Allston area of Boston to try out Pikaichi! I’ve heard a lot of good things about their ramen, but their dinky parking area always deterred me from driving all the way over there. They share the same small plaza as Super 88, so you can imagine with the food court and grocery shoppers there that parking space is very limited.

First up, we definitely wanted to try the takoyaki (fried batter filled with octopus). When it came out, I was so disappointed to see no bonito flakes on it!! The Japanese mayo was squeezed to the side. How can there be no bonito flakes on such a classic snack?? It did taste good and was filled generously with octopus pieces but missed that topping.

I got the Pika Miso Ramen, which has a miso based broth with ground pork, corn, seaweed and the sliced pork.

The bf got Spicy Miso Ramen, which is a spicy version with no ground pork. The noodles were really good, with the perfect amount of chew (al dente). The pork was also super tender, but a bit thin and small. I’ve never actually tried a miso based broth for ramen before, since I always stick to a tonkotsu (pork bone) broth. I didn’t enjoy it as much so I think I would stick with a non-miso based broth next time. The miso flavor was a bit too much for me. They also have other Japanese eats besides ramen. Since the place is so small, we actually had to wait for a bit even though we were eating at 2 pm. Just shows how popular this little shop is!
